❤️ The next time you're a bit annoyed by someone who is overly STRONG-WILLED, perhaps you might consider something...
Have you ever thought about why it is so hard for us to get rid of those personality flaws that seem like they constantly get in the way of our own true happiness?
I certainly have, and I've come to one conclusion... I think we can't get rid of our greatest flaws because those exact same flaws are also a major part of our biggest strengths.
Think about it. Take those strong-willed people for example:
They can drive us absolutely bonkers sometimes, can't they? They know what they want, they stick to what they want, and they aren't really willing to budge from what they've decided they want. They can be difficult in group dynamic, and they have a hard time compromising or meeting the rest of us in the middle for the good of the group. They live life a certain way (their way), and they put their foot down constantly. This can leave the rest of us feeling like we have to be the only ones to constantly adjust our own wants and needs, which quite often leaves us feeling imbalanced. But...
What if the reason why strong-willed people, who I guarantee know that they could stand to be more malleable and group oriented, can't ever allow themselves overcome that personality flaw because while it *is* a flaw...
It is also one of their biggest strengths.
Think about it! The strong willed person KNOWS what they want, they stick to what they want, and they aren't really willing to budge from what they've decided they want. Do you realize what an incredible attribute that is in a world where people are trying so hard to be liked that they don't ever truly show the rest of us their authentic selves? The strong-willed person has a hard time compromising, sure, but do you realize how powerful it is to have someone in your corner who won't compromise their personal integrity with you, or compromise their own morals in situations involving the rest of us? I don't know about you, but that's an attribute I like having in a friend.
What if instead of always being annoyed by these certain traits, we acknowledge our flaws exist, but also *celebrate* the strength of our flaws at the same time?
The truth is - and I am going to try and convince everyone of this one personality flaw at a time - that we *can't* actually get rid of those parts of us without losing an even greater and more powerful part that drives so much of our self worth and is the backbone of so many of our relationships. In other words, if we shed ourselves of certain of our biggest flaws, we lose ourselves.
Learn to celebrate the strong-willed person, even though they madden you at times. You need them in your corner more often than you don't. I do, anyway.
I think strong-willed people are truly... admirable.
